Amaryllis flowers are some of the most showy and sweet smelling bulbs available for houseplants.  In warmer areas of the United States, they can be grown outside and enjoyed throughout the year. The blooms are usually red or a mixture of red and white or white with pink streaks. When the plant is not blooming, it produces long narrow dark green leaves, similar to the leaves of a tulip.
